Needle Painting Prep & Practice

A little bit of Needle Painting. Thankful to Mary Corbett for her pouring into the needle arts community month after month with beautiful, inspiring and creative embroidery. She shared this little pattern "Stitching Exercise for Needle Painting".

Choosing colors from what I have on hand. I may need to adjust my greens a bit, there is something not quite right. 

I used the prick'n pounce method of transfer with charcoal. Then traced it with a sepia pen.

Well this lesson looked like an ornament to me so the fabric choices just had to be Christmas themed. Lots more to do and it's a very busy time of year!

Missing my favorite camera.  My stitching homework for this section is done. I needed all the practice in satin stitch and yet I need more. 

Need to add some French knot centers (Point do noeud).

Incredibly distracting month! Not much to show on the embroidery notebook project, yet the minutes have flown and it is time to post the progress along with hundreds of other ladies doing the same project. Have I lost my mind? Some of the text is in Spanish, some in French and some in English because the book we are using is written in French, the blog we post our lessons on is in Spanish!

SAL Mon Cahier de Broderie Hoja 3 Pagina 5 & 6 Finished

Continuing to learn more embroidery stitches. This is the third leaf, pages three and four of our embroidery notebook. It is a delight to accompany so many friends in a SAL and learn from each other, share our struggles, and resolve to do our best.

Stitches are: Straight, French knots, colonial Knots, Woven Running , Holbein, Granitos, Grids, and Grebiche.

Algerian Eyelets, Buttonhole eyelets, satin stitch eyelets, sorbello, Turkey knot, Peking, Long and Short, Point de Paris, Palestrina. Be sure to see the blog The Curious Frau. she has a great tutorial on how to make beautiful hand bound eyelets.

Instead of straight stitch, I put in Granitos for the flower petals.

Point de chainette en relief or raised chain stitch fixed. I used Mary Corbett's tutorial to learn the proper way of making this stitch. Raised chain Click on a photo to see a larger version.

Cable Chain, Double Cable Chain, Double Chain, Reverse Chain

Wide Chain, Chain with double woven thread in contrasting color, and a very unstable Raised Chain. I'll post an updated photo later-I did not understand the directions (in French or Spanish!)

Attempting Rosette chain. another very unstable stitch if you make it too long! The third on on the left which I have not shown you yet I have taken out five times, larger and more unstable.

The green is Point de Cordage, not sure what the english equivalent is. It is connected on the left with a 'cord' all the way down. Simple Cross Stitch, Cretan stitch in red and Point de Cordonnet in white-a nice stitch for monograms.

Simple continuous Cross Stitch "Point de Croix successif", Creton Stitch "Point de Cretois Rapproche" leaves. You can see how to do these on Mary Corbett's Needle N'Thread.

Couching, Darning, and Weaving.

Couching with matching thread. Garnet Fine d'Abuson wool couched with DMC single strand cotton.

Point de Feuille leaves , couching in alternate color and Sheaf stitch. Point de Feuille is not the same as fly stitch leaves, closer to fishbone stitch.
